This South Side community was a center for academia, arts and politics until the Great Depression curbed its growth in the 1930s. Modern Bronzeville reflects that history in its breathtaking architecture, resurgent arts scene and bustling business district. The historic 47th Street strip in particular has seen a revival in recent years, boasting dozens of restaurants, shops and clubs, many of them locally owned. Affordable rents and easy access to the Bronzeville-based Illinois Institute of Technology and nearby University of Chicago have made the area increasingly popular with students. Green and Red Line trains give residents quick access to Downtown, Hyde Park, and U.S. Cellular Field.
