Edgewater
Although it's a little ways off the beaten path, Edgewater is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of Chicago's most desirable communities. Edgewater's ethnically diverse environment has made it a hot destination for fans of global cuisine eager to sample some of the city's best African and Asian dining. While the nightlife here is a bit more laid back than in some trendier 'hoods, corner bars and neighborhood pubs abound.
Housing in Edgewater runs the gamut from two- and three-flats to multi-unit courtyard buildings to modern mid- and high-rises closer to the lake front. Osterman and Foster Beaches are major attractions in the summer months, drawing carloads of sun-worshipping students from nearby Loyola University.
